This is probably due to conflicting seek definitions. Please try
adding the following flags to you build command:

-DMPICH_IGNORE_CXX_SEEK -DMPICH_SKIP_MPICXX

I think we may be able to automate that in a test in our configure script. That'll make a good starting coding task for one of the new students.
