This caught my eye. I have, together with colleagues, organized a
workshop at OOPSLA for the past three years, to help address this
problem for educators/trainers who are teaching OO/Design Patterns,
especially to those unfamiliar with patterns. The workshop is called
"'Killer Examples' for Design Patterns and Objects First". The goal
of the workshops is to gather examples showcasing (primarily) design
pattern applications which are accessible to newcomers to OO/DP.
Finding real-world examples that are accessible to students, while at
the same time providing clear and overwhelming motivation for the use
of the pattern or patterns (the "Killer" properties) is rare. We want
to show real applications of DPs to our students - student don't
respond well to artificial and contrived examples.
Although it is too late to submit to this year's workshop, we are
always on the lookout for such examples. If anyone on the list would
be interested in contributing an example to the cause, I would be
happy to set up a repository of such examples as a resource for all.
