Hi Jake,
you definitely should read the papers from Christian Kohls (in various PLoP and EuroPLoP proceedings from the last years). If I'm right then he also has finished his PhD about this topic, but I don't know if it's publicly available.
Regards,
Christian Köppe

Hi, folks,
I am curious about the state of patterns theory, and what academic work exists on theoretical underpinnings of patterns. Obviously, there is Alexander (and I'm not sure whether any of this would be in Notes on the Synthesis of Form), but Timeless
Way isn't very academic. I'm particularly interested in any work which might have tied patterns into topics such as: organizational learning, codification of knowledge, knowledge transfer, causal maps, cognitive mental maps, organizational culture, anything
from cognitive psychology such as categorization theory and taxonomies. I would appreciate any papers or other references you can send to me!
(And, hello, all you PLoP '09 attendees!)
Thanks in advance,
Jake Miller
